Just over 200 years ago, the binturong was first described scientifically by an English naturalist. It was not until more than 150 years later that any information about it appeared. More importantly, it was only two centuries later that data on the ecology and biology of the binturong was finally reported following observations in its natural environment. Indeed, prior to 2014, 98% of behavioral data came from captive studies! Incredible, isn't it? What does the binturong eat in its natural habitat? Is there a breeding season in the wild? How does reproduction take place? Do males and females meet? Rearing the young? What tree species do they prefer to live on? So many mysteries yet to be unraveled in its natural environment. ! A long-term effort to which ABConservation has been dedicated since its creation.
So why hadn't it been studied before? Simply because people didn't know about it. And it's still largely unknown to the general public!
So today, if we want to help the binturong, let's make some noise for him around us. Let's spread the word to our families, friends, neighbors, the whole world!!!
